Wishful Knitting

Look who is drying on the radiator after a nice overnight soak in the sink. (I forgot about the poor little thing and I felt sorry for him this morning when I found him belly up in the basin : ( But he's feeling better now! I am trying to make these little reversible duck/egg toys as a surprise for the girls for Easter. The surprise part isn't going that well. I have been working on them when my youngest is around and she's far too knit-curious for it to be a secret....I am hoping the old "out of sight out of mind" will come into play. People, this is an all-time record for me- usually my Easter treats require a grueling late-night last minute finishing fest. Hmmmmm, I probably shouldn't count my ducklings before they hatch.....

Just look at that happy kid- I suppose this is what/who started me down the path of late nights and tingling digits. Seems I have gotten into the habit of making my girls a new stuffed toy every Easter. This year, she wanted a guinea pig. For weeks I tried to get her to change her mind, to no avail. I couldn't find a knitted pattern- in hindsight, I am sure I could have just come up with something, but instead, I found this site: Planet June . While I have tried basic crochet before (with the help of the Happy Hookers ), I hadn't tried anything like this before. So, I gave it a whirl- and, judging from the smiles, I think it went well. Lucky for me, Nanny-o has been here for Spring break to do the hard part...the faces! And, as usual, we have to do it late at night, the eve before Easter. Hey, it's tradition. Happy Spring from Italy! (No one really needs to know that the elves got their Easter baskets a week late : ) These two little guys/gals were knit from a pattern in Last Minute Knitted Gifts- which is a great book. I used the possum yarn my hubby brought back from New Zealand. It's a bit strange, the yarn. It has a merino feel, but then has real hair that fuzzes like an angora. It works well for a little bunny. Of course, the elves didn't pay much attention to these bunnies and played with their other gifites after devouring the meager chocolates they got- except the tiny elf who just held the M&M's in her hand until they were good and soft. I am pleased with the bunnies and the only change was the faces. Nanny Nonna did a splendid job as my resident bunny face creator. I think the faces look fabulous! Of course, we were up til the wee hours working on these, but that's to be expected!
