Wishful Knitting

Did I really never publish this? What a blast from the past. All I remember is that the hat fit The Fonz the best :) I guess it's along the line of the pussycat hat!

This year the holday knitting was nothing but fun. I have read in the blog-o-sphere about many bloggers getting overwhelmed trying to make gifites. I have done that before, but not this year! I was so excited about making these for the girls (and nephew), I knit them up super fast. In my enthusiasm, I bought 10 balls of yarn- a green, red, white and metallic blend- a little tacky, abut a lot festive! Normally, the colors would have conjured up holiday thoughts, but I couldn't stop thinking that the colors were the same for the Italian flag! I also think the Italians would love the flashy metallic bits! However, after the knitting got under way, it was pretty boring! Worse yet, the girls weren't super-thrilled with their new hats! I think they would have liked the striping called for in the original pattern- oh well, there's always next year. I was able to sweet talk them into donning their elf hats a few times........ This kid is a riot- she picked out these colors herself! I am thrilled about making knitterly items to keep them warm...more to come. Pattern: Handy Book of Patterns by Ann Budd Yarn: Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky Needles: Size 10, 3.5 sts/inch- nice and tight for warmth Mods: Changed the crown decreases to be more gradual, added afterthought garter stitch edging and decreased a few stitches so it would hug her head more

I made this for a baby shower recently. The pattern is from Last Minute Knitted Gifts . It was easy and fun to knit- but there is an error in the pattern that isn't corrected on the errata page. Following the given instructions doesn't leave enough openings to thread the tie properly. This time, (as I was running out of time and wanted it to be washed and ready to wear) I simply overlooked the defect and tied the hat. Next time I make it, I will add another eyelet. The yarn is Mission Falls cotton- from the stash. I also made this.... I have started to crochet little items (read....current obsession). It seems so freeing to be able to create simple sweet designs with only a hook. The baby's name will be Sofia and the shower was the day before Easter.

This is the Odessa Hat. It was made with my love and positive energy in every stitch to help Sandy fight cancer. Ironically, she is a hairstylist and has spent her life helping people have beautiful hair. I think about her a lot. It seems I have a "scent memory" connected with her name. She always smells like Aveda products. Every day when I wash my hair, I think of her and hope she is having a good day. The hat was made with Debbie Bliss Cashmerino, one skein. I didn't swatch, because I didn't want to - besides, I am not even sure how to count in a pattern like this. I figured with this style, it would fit most. It was a quick, fun knit. I left the beads off- I thought they might be too lumpy on a sensitive scalp. I have no idea why Miss H has the long face, I think she was channeling her inner beatnik. Could it be that I am turning over a new leaf? (he, he...I think I am too old for turning over leaves that lead to MORE self-discipline, but I could surely go the other way!) This is the quintessential "my mommy knits, so I get a holiday hat." AND she has it for the whole season- on time! We had a great time in the pumpkin patch and the hat actually kept elder elf warm. I don't have the pattern here in front of me, but if anyone needs it (ha! I don't think anyone reads this, so I can continue to be lazy!), just put a note in the comments and I will run upstairs and get it.
