Holiday Mittens.....


She has been asking for matching mittens for a while- well, at least for a couple of days. Her nagging just makes it seem longer. Are my mittens ready? Are my mittens ready? Will they be done today?


Yes, they are finished. Then, at the park, she asked, "Can you make me a hat just like this one- only with this yarn?" I reminded her that I made her about the elf hat. Well, could I have one just like the one I am wearing, only with holiday yarn? Sure, why not....I probably should have asked her first anyway! Oh well, I guess I HAVE to knit more : )

Yarn: Herrschner's Holiday yarn
Gauge: 20 sts/4"
Needles: size 6
Pattern: The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns by Ann Budd (great book!)

Mods:
I only changed the length of the cuff- I made it about 3 inches long to make sure her wrists stay covered. I forgot about how pointy the thumbs and tops turn out the more decreases made before pulling the string through the stitches. I wouldn't mind re-doing them, but I am going to let it go- let them go : )

Mittens are cute? Easy? I'll have to try one day.

The models are sweet and would look good in anything. I think they'll love their Santa hats next year. They would have been big hits at home.

Oh my gosh, our little buddy looks so old in this picture! Here he is in his new sweater. Yep, it's buckeye colors left over from the baby sack. A long time ago, I bought him some Donnegal (sp?) tweed and a fancy book with adorable patterns. It remains unknit...but I did throw together this little number sans pattern. (There's still hope for the other one!) He does kind of have a funny body shape, though and the armholes were too big, so I tightened them up with some crochet. Of course, there's the "F." He can't wear it at night because he gets too hot, but during the day, he is more comfortable with his little sweater- no shivering for this pampered pooch. P.S. Thanks for the cute Halloween card for the boy Nanny-o, he loved it...oh, and he misses you too!

Z's shawl....

This is one of those skeins- the Socks That Rock lightweight. The colors are sweet and very gentle. Here it is modeled by my elder daughter, but the little one has laid claim to it. For whatever reason, she calls it her own. I am almost starting to relax enough about my paranoia of them having things around their neck, that I just might be able to let her wear it once in a while. She can have it, but I prefer her stuffed cat wear it. I love working with this yarn- it's got a great texture! As you can see in this pic, it's too bulky to wear as a neck wrap, but it seems too small to use as a shawl. I wish I would have gotten two skeins for this one. Who knew? And it's all just part of the great experiment to find a little neck wrap that is NOT a dickie! Did I really never publish this? What a blast from the past. All I remember is that the hat fit The Fonz the best :) I guess it's along the line of the pussycat hat!
